Diving into The Lagoon Nebula | Hubble Support us at FriendsofNASA.org | This video begins with a ground-based view of the night sky, before zooming in on the Lagoon Nebula as it can be seen with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The nebula is immense—55 light-years wide and 20 light-years tall—and so Hubble can only image a tiny part of it in stunning detail. This nebula is filled with intense winds from hot stars, churning funnels of gas, and energetic star formation, all embedded within an

This nebula took a page out of J.R.R. Tolkien’s book! In this visible-light view of the Ring Nebula by the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers were able to make out previously unseen details. The blue, gaseous center of the nebula is shaped like a football stuck through the red, gaseous ring. The dark, irregular knots of gas along the ring’s inner edge are actually a shadow effect created by light spikes around the main ring. The whole structure is about 2,000 light-years away and one light-year

Let’s take a look at the Eagle Nebula—twice in fact—with the Hubble and Webb space telescopes! First observed by Hubble in 1995, this captivating scene was revisited in 2014 by the telescope. Hubble’s reexamination of this region, seen here, shows a sharper and wider view than its original image. In visible light, the dark brown pillars seem multi-layered and opaque, with only a few red stars able to peek through the columns of gas and dust. In 2022, astronomers used Webb to observe this same ar

You've heard of emission & dark nebulae, but what about Dragon Nebulae? A "dragon nebula" is what we get when a @SpaceX Dragon reenters the atmosphere & initiates its landing burn, creating a gorgeous, "rare" event in the night sky! Shot by @DeepSkyDude! | Stardom
